We took the speed train to Florence last Friday, just for the day from Rome, and we were so glad that we did! Figuring out the "system" in another city or country can be stressful but also fun if you like to adventure and figure things out, you just need to factor in time! We had to take a bus from the bus stop near our B&B in Rome, (which was AMAZING by the way and if you ever go to Rome you have to stay here!), to the train station. Sounds pretty easy right? Yes, but when you wake up so early, get to the bus stop, and don't know where to buy bus tickets, and no body is awake, and you've never ridden a train before... you just wish you had a Italian best friend that could show you what to do! Well, we finally found a newspaper kiosk and they sold us our ticket, we hopped on the bus and went to the train station and figured our way onto the train! It's crazy to me that once you have done something like that once, it's so easy and to do it again would be simple. But the first time trying to figure it out can be so hard! Every day can be quite an experience.
Anyway-- Florence was amazing! I think I got gelato twice that day, surprise. We went and got to see Michaelangelo's statue of The David, walk to the top of the city's hill, Michaelangelo's Plaza, to overlook the city, and we walked to the top of the dome of the city's church, the Duomo. OHMYGOSH. So, again, I didn't do any research about walking to the top of the dome of the Church, and I should of known when they asked me to leave my stroller that there wasn't going to be an elevator, but I carried Haddie up 463 steps! 18 pounds of baby up a never ending staircase. Never again. ha (Yes, thats why I felt free to eat as much gelato as I wanted ha).
I am so glad that we took the time to go to Florence for a day but I would love to go back for more time to explore! It was such a charming place and it felt much smaller than Rome, more like a little community or town compared to a bustling city. It was slower paced and we ended up getting pretty good weather when we thought it was going to rain all day!
On a fashion note- I wore these black jeans and booties A TON, as you have seen, and was so glad that I had something easy, comfortable, and classic for this week traveling. Having comfortable shoes is so important because if your feet are miserable, you can miss out on a lot! I am not a huge fan of flat booties, because I love heels so much, but these booties were so worth it!
Happy Thursday!
xo, Ash
Below are just some more fun pictures I loved from our trip-- how cute is the Princess!? ugh, I just could eat her up!!! <3
