This summer has just been GO GO GO. Oh my gosh. I think we have been home a total of 6 days since Seth got done with school. We went to KC, went to San Angelo to see Seth's family, and then went to Abilene for a day to watch Seth work some football camps. Then we have been home this past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday but we have been working on painting our new house so I don't even feel like we have been at our apartment in forever!!
We are so excited about our new house and honestly, it is just another way the Lord keeps continually providing for us! (I don't know why I am surprised every time He does!) When we moved here last August, we knew we wanted to move into an apartment first to get used to Fort Worth and also to see where we would even want to buy a house. I choose an apartment as close to Seth's school as I could, because I wanted to make sure I had every opportunity to see him as much as possible, whether he had a long lunch break or whatever. Haddie and I went up to football practice lots last year and we loved doing that! We knew we would want to buy after our year lease was over because we both feel like that is an important thing to put money into each month, vs. an apartment over the long haul, and we would love to be in Fort Worth for awhile!
Seth is actually the one who was always on the "house hunt." Even before we had moved to Fort Worth, he would search and search Zillow and different real estate apps every night and show me his favorites and what areas of town they were in. Seth is visionary and likes to look at the future. I am super into TODAY and can usually barely think ahead to next week. I take one week, mostly, one day at a time, so him looking at houses wasn't overwhelming to me, but I just didn't care too much because it was so far away in my head. But even as he looked, we could see that we were not going to love how far our money could take us in Fort Worth, compared to Branson.
After Louie was born and we somewhat had a new normal, around February, Seth convinced me to seriously start thinking about looking at houses, since our lease was coming up in July. Seth's mom is a real estate agent and so we knew we could start looking with her help when we were ready!
So.. back tracking a little... one of Seth's parents good friends, Kathy, lives here in Fort Worth, and she also lives next door to her kids. They live about 15-20 minutes from Seth's school. When Seth's parents would come visit us, sometimes they stay at Kathy's house because it is MUCH more comfortable than our living room rug! lol Kathy had been sharing with Susan that her kids were going to be moving during the summer and selling their house. This was all around the time we first were moving to Fort Worth, so again, this was not really on my radar. But as time got closer and closer to start looking for a house and prices only keep going up, we decided to buy from our friends and as you guessed I"m sure.. we are going to be living next to Kathy!
The house is in a great spot in Forth Worth and we are so excited to start making it our home. We are going to have about a month and a half until our lease is up to do some small projects to add some personal touches on the house. We are going to be painting all the trim, ceilings, and walls, along with adding some detailing to the cabinets. #pinterestproject that I'm HOPING WILL TURN OUT AWESOME. If you are a good painter-- you are more than welcome to come help! We painted Friday, Saturday and Sunday and only got ONE room completely done. (I'm blaming that on having 2 kids!) I'm also so excited to hang my wallpaper I purchased (see here/color blue!) in our dining room turned office, and add new light fixtures. I will have to for sure do a post later on all of our paint changes that we make so it will be fun to make it into the Higgins home.
The Lord provided for us in so many ways and I'm so thankful to him for how he continually looks out for us:
1. We were getting discouraged by the prices of homes in the area and he had that house there for us this whole time, timing and everything.
2. Timing. Kathy's kids just moved out last week and we have a little time to paint and do small changes before we have to move out of the apartment.
3. Kathy is amazing and we get to have an AWESOME neighbor whom we, (especially Haddie!) adore.
4. Seth's mom is a realtor and is cutting us a GREAT deal ;) But buying from friends and not using an agent is saving us money.
"Thank you Lord for this house. For letting Seth and I make a home where we can raise our kids to love you, and where we can bring in other people and be your light. We cannot wait to see the memories made here."
I will be posting updates and progress pictures on my insta-stories as we go!
