Throwing it back to a few months ago when Chandler came and took some photos of our house as I love seeing the changes we made in the year we have lived in our home! I'm continuing the next room BEFORE/AFTER post with the living room/office area.
When you come into the front door of our home, you entrance right into our living room and dining room space. It's basically a long rectangle. We didn't have a dining room table last year when we moved (and still don't) and so when we were originally thinking about this space, we thought we would use more of an office area as I work from home a lot and Seth had started working on his masters this past year.
I start with all the "befores" (I-Phone pics) and move into the afters taken by my super talented friend Chandler!
I hope you enjoy seeing how it turned out! I tell you all I still want to add (as you know the decorating never stops) at the end of the post!
xo, Ashley
One of the only things we purchased for this home was the office furniture, which included this desk and our bookshelves that you'll see in future pics. We both knew we wanted a BIG desk, that felt sturdy and not flimsy, and that had some character. I spotted this at the KC Flea Markets, First Fridays, and knew it was the one! We low balled an offer and the guy took it! (He told us he thinks it was involved in the mafia! LOL... hmmm)
I love this picture because it shows the impact of stark white ceiling pant!! It has made such a difference in our whole home!
The whole ceiling painted white. Feels so bright.
Painted the office ceiling white too.
The living room had quite a few settling cracks under the windows. These are not foundational but just created some rippling in the walls under the windows. We had these re sheet rocked to make them a smooth finish and tore out all the baseboards.
My dad will be so proud he made it in a post! He is my pro painter!!
Settling cracks are drying and we painted the walls Repose Grey by Sherwin Williams.
OMGsh! Little baby Louie!! Can't believe he was this little when we moved in!
The one thing that took me like 10 minutes to put together in my head was our office space! (I normally am not so decisive). I love following Studio McGee (They are an interior design company and I LOVE their insta so I pulled some things from them). Follow them! I remember I picked out my "ideal" pieces for it in a few hours one night while we were still in our apartment. I was obsessed with this wallpaper and still am. It's one of my favorite things in our house.
Finally a wall is trimmed and baseboards are in! We used the same composite baseboards as we did in the other rooms, instead of wood, as it was SO much more cost effective and from the eye, you cannot tell any difference. They came primed but we had to paint them our same Valspar trim paint color.
Starting to move stuff in!
We got the Billy Bookcases from Ikea with the extensions. They were the best price we could find, while looking the most "custom" for not "custom." lol
The lamp lights are also from Ikea. They make such a difference to me and add some character to the shelves.
Little goober in the chaos!! She still loves to sit at that desk everyday and color.
Moving furniture in... I also took down this white fan as I felt it made the room feel a little smaller and replaced it with just a can light LED light.
Laying out different ideas for my gallery wall. I have done one in each place we have lived and each one has looked a little different. When we first got married and had moved into our apartment, Seth was like, "Will you please stop framing pictures of us everywhere." I had our engagement photos, wedding photos, honeymoon photos! Ha I mean, I was so happy with all our cute pics and we were newlyweds! But I decided to start collecting and framing pictures and things from places that we have been or traveled to or that have meaning to us. We got to travel with our last job and so we love looking at those memories. I love this wall in our home filled with some of our best memories.
My greatest helper!
Enjoy the afters! We love our space.
Office: Wallpaper: Anthropologie | Lighting: Joss & Main | Bookshelves: Ikea | Bookshelf lights: Ikea | Desk Lamp: Target | Ginger Jars: Homegoods (similar) |
Living Room: Couch: Haverty's | White Chair: Ballard Designs | TV Stand: World Market (on MAJOR SALE!) | Couch Pillows: Etsy & Homegoods | Fiddle Leaf Fig: Homegoods (similar) | Leopard Pillow: Willa Skye Home | Tripod lamp: Target | Furry Ottoman: Homegoods | Couch Side Table and Lamp: Homegoods | Rug: Homegoods
So... what to add!
For the office area, all I really want to add at this point is a cowhide rug underneath the desk. Part of me likes a zebra rug too but I will probably end up going with a cowhide look. I think it will be fun and add a little more definition to the space. Down the road, we would also like to get a different desk chair as well.
For the living room area, we currently use our furry ottoman under our gallery wall as our ottoman for our feet at night. We used to have a large square ottoman but with the kids and this being our main living space, I was constantly moving it out of the way so we could play on the rug. So, I don't know if I have a better idea right now, but I would love a coffee table or fun ottoman in front of the couch that's super kid friendly.
Also, if you have ideas PLEASE let me know, but I want something above our TV and that wall. It seems so bare with just the TV stand and TV but I don't want it to look like I decorated around our TV you know? Anyway, I have no idea what would look good on that wall so if you have ideas, share them!
Now i just have the Master left to post, and our bathrooms once we get those finished! LOL
Have a great week!
Ashley
